Are you a daily priority?

In so many cases we wait until our vacation to make time for ourselves, or our families, or our significant others. Too often we place what we know to be most important to us and our wellbeing at the bottom of our priority list. It's strange how work priorities and things that others want or need us to do seem to take priority in our daily lives. When it comes to our personal to-do list we say, "well, I'll just do that tomorrow!" and before you know it, it's Friday and you vaguely remember making that statement on Monday. How many of us kick-off each morning by committing the fatal mistake of checking our work email first? That's the ultimate sin of putting our personal daily priorities on the back burner. Email should be considered the devil! And who in their right mind would willingly wake up to that foolishness!!?? I call it the ultimate sin because the nature of email is for other people to send you a message to do something that they consider important. That's right...they consider it important and need you to jump on it right away! If you check your emails first thing in the morning, you have fallen into this trap and other people's priorities have just become your priority!

Luckily there is a solve to this problem and it's not complicated to execute. Stop it! Thats right...Stop the foolishness. Now, this says easy, but does very hard. You see, many of us are addicted to email and solving other people's problems AND putting our priorities at the bottom of the freaking priority list. If you really want to put yourself first each day, start by putting yourself first each morning! Wake up with the intension to get your personal to-do items accomplished BEFORE you get other people's to-do list items accomplished. We all have different personal items on our list but a few of mine are:

  • Mediation

  • Exercise

  • Reading my affirmations

  • Coffee with my wife

  • Journaling

These activities give me energy and when I'm consistent with checking these off my list each morning BEFORE work and emails, I feel a sense of accomplishment, creativity, positivity, courage, and calm as I attack the workday. Create your list and put YOU first each day by scratching each item off your list each morning prior to working. Don't wait until vacation to generate personal power or put yourself first! You have the power to put yourself first every day! Do it, even if you have to wake up a little earlier than normal. The benefits will last all day and will multiply daily as you build a consistent routine around putting yourself first each and every day!
